Summary
The exact frequency of the diagnosis of adrenal insufficiency (AI) and adrenal crisis (AC) in emergency settings is unknown. There is substantial evidence that delays in diagnosis and treatment may lead to deleterious, and even fatal, consequences. Therefore, it has been agreed to develop a consensus document t between the 2 main scientific societies involved in the management of AC, aimed especially at emergency professionals to raise awareness of this condition and improve its management. This document represents an expert consensus between the Spanish Society of Emergency Medicine (SEMES) and the Spanish Society of Endocrinology and Nutrition (SEEN) and is intended to facilitate the diagnosis and treatment of AI and AC in both hospital and prehospital emergency settings.
